what is acupuncture graphic
Acupuncture is an ancient healing art and science that is derived from Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) around 5,000 years ago. TCM recognises the importance of the smooth flow of energy ('qi') within organs and the relationship to the environment, in terms of health and disease. Hence, traditional concepts such as balancing 'yin-yang' and the 5-phases and regulating 'qi' to circulate freely through organ channel pathways have been the focus of pattern identification in diagnoses and treatment principles within acupuncture practice.

Besides moxibustion and cupping, the insertion of fine needles on acupoints found on the body is a therapeutic method adopted in acupuncture. These methods are used for the therapeutic purpose of restoring balance to both mind and body. Within these traditional concepts in acupuncture practice, is a unique comprehensive model known as Manaka's X-signal system. Essentially, it is the fusion of traditional concepts and modern medicine. The body is viewed as having an intercellular communications system, capable of transmitting information at a deep level and will respond effectively to gentle insertion of needles with minute stimulation of the signal system without disturbing the whole physiological processes. The use of ion-pumping cords as a polarity agent is often adopted in this procedure with good results in promoting a counter-bias of the original functional problems to change within minutes. Since the practise of pre-sterilised fine needles was introduced, acupuncture is a relatively safe medical procedure when administered by a trained and competent practitioner.
